Unparalleled Achievements in Nanoscience

Since its founding in 2006, the Molecular Foundry’s researchers have distinguished themselves through pioneering advancements in their fields:

Prestigious Honors

In recent years, Foundry scientists have amassed an impressive array of awards for outstanding work:

Carolyn Bertozzi, was named to receive 2010's $500,000 Lemelson-MIT Prize during her tenure as Foundry Director. The prize honors an "outstanding mid-career inventor who is dedicated to improving our world through technological invention and innovation." Bertozzi also received the 2009 Harrison Howe Award, which recognizes a scientist who has made outstanding contributions to chemistry or closely related fields and who shows great potential for further achievement.

 

Jim DeYoreo, Molecular Foundry Interim Director, has received the 2010 Laudise Prize for his contributions to the "technology and scientific basis of rapid growth of perfect crystals from solutions." Awarded every three years by the International Organization for Crystal Growth, the Laudise Prize honors significant technological contributions to the field of crystal growth.

 

 

Delia Milliron, Director of the Inorganic Nanostructures Facility, is a recipient of the 2010 Mohr Davidow Ventures (MDV) Innovators Award. Delia is also the recipient of the 2010 Early Career Research Program award for her work on “Inorganic Nanocomposite Electrodes for Electrochemical Energy Storage and Energy Conservation."


Jeff Neaton, Director of the Theory of Nanostructured Materials Facility, has received the 2009 Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers, "the highest honor bestowed by the United States government on young professionals in the early stages of their independent research careers."

 

Steven Louie, Foundry Scientific Director, was among the 2009 inductees into the American Academy of Arts and Sciences (AAAS) for his research in the theory of condensed matter physics and material science. The AAAS is one of the nation's most prestigious honorary societies, celebrating pioneering research and scholarship, artistic achievement and exemplary service to society.

These accomplishments and honors indicate the high level of research conducted at the Foundry.
